There wasn’t much to do growing up on “The Coast” a seniors-friendly beachside locale in New Zealand. So we found things to do to occupy our time. Like starting up bands, in this case a punk band called The Poorly Rounded, with an ethic to keep all songs under a minute, and even better, to aim to keep them under 30 seconds. Our repertoire included such favourites as, “I don’t wanna hug you”, “Search with Google”, “No, I won’t hug you.”, “Nick Eynon rollerbladed through Orewa”, “Overdose on Gin” and “College: It’s a shame.” most of these recorded onto cassette that was given out to a lucky few.
After many fun-filled late nights and even a few live shows, Ruban and Kody went on to make much better music that is worth listening to without the aid of glue, meths or dull blows to the temple. Kody’s band is called OPOSSOM, and Ruban’s is Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Check em out.
